The moderating role of language proficiency on visual attention in L2 communication

Collaborating with my academic advisor, Theres Gruter, and other classmates, I am excited to share our latest publication in the esteemed journal Studies in Second Language Acquisition. Our study replicated the findings of Birules et al 2020 and highlighted the impact of language proficiency on the gaze patterns of L2 learners during communication. Our results revealed that less proficient L2 learners tend to focus more on the speaker’s mouth compared to their more proficient counterparts.
